This cut took over from the Old Mine Cut as being the most popular diamond cut during the 19th century, it then went on to be the transitional cut and then round brilliant cut which is popular today
These cubic zirconia gems are cut in the same shape, except the crown is not as high, this is because diamonds were cut to maintain the size of the diamond rather than to look as good as possible. These cz gems are cut to the ideal height to maximize brilliance for this cut, this means that the height of the crown is cut lower than most antique stones. CZ does not look good when the crown is cut high for this cut, although natural antique diamonds do.
